The Ste. Genevieve County Sheriff's Office Detention Center is a modern facility capable of housing approximately 300 detainees daily. The Detention Center serves all law enforcement for our community including local, state and federal agencies. There are currently 35 full time deputies/correctional officers that staff the Detention Center. In addition to the normal daily responsibilities of housing detainees, these employees are responsible for transporting detainees to and from court, handling in-state and out-of-state extraditions and maintaining facility security. Detainees held in this facility range from civil detainees to dangerous felons.

If you have any questions about our Detention Facility, please feel free to email Jail Administrator Lt. Andrew Johnson at ajohnson@sgcso.com.

If you are in need of a Letter of Incarceration and you are no longer incarcerated in our facility, you must mail your request in writing along with a self-addressed stamped envelope to the attention of custodian of records.  All requests must come from the individual that was incarcerated, not from a third party.  If a subject is still currently incarcerated in our facility, that individual must submit a General Request requesting a Letter of Incarceration and it will be provided.  The detainee is responsible for mailing out the Letter of Incarceration to the appropriate party or agency.  We will not mail items out for detainees, nor will we fax or email.

Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA):

The Ste. Genevieve County Detention Center has a zero-tolerance policy in regards to sexual abuse / sexual harassment.  If you wish to report sexual abuse or sexual harassment as a third party you may email the Jail Administrator by clicking the email link above, you may email info@sgcso.com. The Ste. Genevieve County Detention Center was audited for PREA compliance on July 28-29, 2016 by a certified PREA Auditor and the final report is on file at our facility.  (PREA 115.403(f))

Sexual Abuse Investigation Policy:

When a sexual abuse investigation is alleged between offenders, the Detective Bureau will take the lead on the investigation. If the alleged abuse is between staff and offender, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Division of Drug and Crime Control, will be requested to take the lead on the investigations.

Ste. Genevieve County Sheriff's Office and Detention Centers takes the safety and security of the residents seriously, this includes the safety and security from sexual abuse, sexual harassment and retaliation within our detention center population. To ensure transparency, we will provide an annual PREA report beginning with 2022.

2022 Annual PREA Report

The report is broken down into four main categories: Inmate on Inmate Sexual Harassment (I/I S.H), Inmate on Inmate Sexual Abuse (I/I S.A), Staff on Inmate Sexual Harassment (S/I S.H.) and Staff on Inmate Sexual Abuse (S/I S.A.). Each of those categories have 4 subcategories: Substantiated (S), Unsubstantiated (Unsub), Unfounded (Unfnd) and Referred to Prosecutor (Pros.)

Comparing to prior years, the number of PREA reports is up. For fiscal year 2021, the Sheriff's Office had five (5) total reports. Those five (5) reports were all Inmate on Inmate Sexual Harassment. Two (2) of the reports were unsubstantiated and three (3) unfounded. For fiscal year 2020, the Sheriff's Office had one (1) report total. That one (1) was reported as Staff from another agency on Inmate. That report was immediately forwarded to the agency that employed the individual for them to investigate.

The increase in reports from 2020 through 2022 is due to an increase in population. The Sheriff's Office, after collecting the data and monitoring it, we explored problem areas and developed possible corrective actions to help lower the amount of reports. We added more holding cells and expanded our footprint to include more detention pods for housing. This was done to lower the population in each pod. We also added roughly seventy-five (75) more cameras through out the detention center to help monitor the daily activities of the detainees we currently house.
