Animal Control Center FAQ

  • What do I do if I'm missing my pet?
Animal Control will contact you if your animal is tagged or microchipped.  If your animal is not tagged or chipped you will need to call (573) 883-3665 or come by the lobby of the Sheriff's Office.  Inform the secretary or a Deputy you need to view the animals in the kennel because you are missing your pet.  You will be escorted to the kennel where you may check for your pet.

  • How do I reclaim my pet?
You must show proof of ownership such as pictures, vet bills, etc. before the animal will be released back to you.  There is a mandatory $7.00 per day kennel fee that must be paid when you pick up your pet from the kennel.

  • What do I do about a stray?
Call (573) 883-5215 to report a stray.  Either Animal Control or another officer will assist you.

  • Can I bring my pet to the kennel while I am out of town?
No.  We are not a boarding kennel.  We are animal control.  Our mission is to give strays a second chance at life in a non-abusive home.

  • Will animal control accept an animal I no longer want for adoption?
No.  We are not a Human Society.  It is your responsibility to find a new home for your animal.  There are Human Society's in St. Louis and Farmington that may be able to help you.
